yes, everyone likes to rewatch some of the fun/good ones....

DESPERADO (dir. Robert Rodriguez)
ahhh, OTT action silliness on a shoe string budget... much fun to be had if you enjoy westerns or Hong Kong cinema. the plots not up to much, but who the hell watches an action flick for the plot? as always mr Rodriguez has supplied some great bonus features, including a very educational film school and commentary.
drink tequila and warch this cabron.

BROTHERHOOD (dir. Kang Je-Gyu)
yet another wellmade film from korea... i do have some complaints abouth this one though, mostly the overly camp and cheesy first third - it felt far too artificial and saccarine sweet. then the action started and the film took on a different feel... brutal, harrowing war scenes on a par with the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. the unpleasant battle footage was offset by a personal story both heroic and tragic, with strong performances from all the cast. near the end though there was another hint of saccarine until the final, moving scenes.
well worth a watch if you enjoy a good war film, just keep going for the first 30 minutes... it is worth it.

CLOSER (dir. Mike Nichols)
ms Roberts was miscast, she just didn't feel right in that role. all the others were very good, with a nasty turn from mr Law... even mr Owen managed to muster charisma and personality for the role (possibly aided by his having played the same role on stage before.) as far as the story goes, there's not much to say, its a drama about some fairly unpleasant people doing unpleasant things to each others feelings... fairly average.

SAHARA (dir. Breck Eisner)
a rollocking, fun, self mocking action/adventure in the spirit of Indiana Jones. expect silly setpieces, fast banter between the heroes and a pleasingly daft plot. definitely one for a saturday night with a couple of drinks and some pizza.
only one real complaint... it needs a theme tune that you can hum... sadly lacking and it loses a point for the omission. oh, and ms Cruz really can't act very well, not that she was pushed in this.

HUKKLE (dir. Gyorgy Palfi)
an interesting little number from hungary, one to watch if you enjoy arty films. made with huge imagination and great skill, this wordless tale tells of life and murder in rural hungary. with a surprising sense of humour the camera follows the inhabitants of a farming town around their daily routenes, as one by one the old, ill and useless die. well, shot and cut this is one to make you think.

THE INCREDIBLES (dir. Brad Bird)
its pixar, so we know its gonna be fun! The Incredibles delivewrs laughs for all ages along with brilliant set pieces and glorious animation. each film that pixar does looks better than the last, here's hoping that they keep up the good work.
a damned good take on the super hero concept... far superior and accessable than spiderman.
